Bridal Shoes

Break with Tradition

Think outside the shoebox. Blue flats could be your "something blue." Those red sequined flip-flops in your maid-of-honor's closet that you've been turning green over could be your "something borrowed."

Choose Comfortable Bridal Shoes

Since you want to be comfortable on your big day, practice walking in your bridal shoes. If you choose heels, make sure you can balance on them easily. Try squatting, kneeling, or anything else you may do at your ceremony/reception.

For ultimate in comfort, try a pair of white Keds. They're simple, white, and you can decorate them with fluffy ribbon instead of shoelaces. As an added bonus, you're wearing the right footgear if you decide to run. You can just hike up your dress and go!

While a very small percentage of brides probably leave after making it to the altar, most of them DO stand on their feet all day. Remember, blistered feet make for a bratty bride!

If you're not sentimental enough to design and hang up a pair of painted Keds, don't despair! Not many brides are! Look for a shoe you can wear later. Hopefully, you'll only be wearing that tiara and dress once in your life. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to pull out your bridal shoes for a night on the town with your new hubby?

Shoes for Bridesmaids

Assuming you're not Britney Spears, aka Girl Whose Wedding Party Wears Tracksuits, you're going to want to have your bridesmaids dress their feet up a little.

If you're a fairly laid back bride, you can give a general guideline and have them choose their own shoes. Then, it's not your fault if they have blisters at the end of the night. They can also spend as little as they like.

If you are choosing one shoe for all the girls in your wedding party, try to go with something they'll be able to wear later. They won't be able to wear the dresses again, so let them make use of the shoes. Silver sandals with a low heel are a fabulous choice for bridesmaids' dresses in almost any color. They'll look great with jeans, skirts, and summer dresses.

What to Remember about Bridal Shoes

You want to be comfortable. And you want your bridesmaids comfortable too.

Just because the dresses will get sold or preserved, the shoes don't have to be put away forever. Pair those babies with a fun new pedi and paint the town!

Don't blindly follow tradition instead of choosing cute shoes that will help you make a statement. You're the bride. You deserve some self-expression. After all, your mother forced you to pick the white roses over the multi-colored tulips you wanted, right? Keep something for yourself.

Your bridal shoes will be hidden most of the time anyway, so don't be afraid to get a little funky!
