When trying to track down something very specific, it can be easier to start your shopping online to get a sense of what’s out there in any given season. A basic search on a site like Zappos will show you what’s available.

While few designers currently feature brown patent leather platform shoes, Marc Jacobs has a fantastic pair of slip-on chocolate brown patent leather boots with a shearling lining. The toe is rounded and the front platform is 1-inch high. The 3 1/2-inch thick tapered heel still looks vampy, but is comfortable for winter walking.

Vintage Brown Patent Leather Platform Shoes

You know the most popular colors for patent leather shoes: black, red and white. While brown is certainly available, it just isn’t considered as desirable as those three. But in the 1970s, during the heyday of serious platform shoes, brown patent leather was a very popular color. If the leather hasn’t cracked, these can be great shoes to wear.

For the real thing, your best bet is nearly always going to be eBay. Obviously, caveat emptor applies, but you can usually find good shoes at fair prices.

Another good source is Vintage Vixen, which has a large quantity of both genuine vintage and retro-styled shoes for sale. Their stock is constantly changing, but the quality is high.
