Unenthusiastic Shopper

When shopping for child shoes, it is important to remember that the majority of children do not like to go shopping. Unlike women who revel in the opportunity to purchase new shoes, kids can't stand the browsing and trying on process. It's difficult enough to get them to wear shoes in the first place! Since kids outgrow their footwear quickly, it is vital that you stay on top of shoe shopping without making your kids miserable. Providing for them a positive retail experience will make life easier for not only them, but you as well.

If your child does not like shopping, then consider going to a store that specializes in child shoes. The salespeople are more than likely able to deal with the grumpy owner of the feet in question, and many stores provide things such as balloons, candy, and television for kids to help them pass the time such that the child is not quite so against the process.

When To Buy New Child Shoes

It is important to your child's health and growth that you realize when they need new shoes. It isn't the best idea to wait until your child is actually complaining about their feet hurting before you go shoe shopping. Regularly check to make sure their toes are not pushing against the tip of the shoe, and that there is enough breathing room on the sides. Look for seams that appear as if they are being strained by the weight of the foot, and also be on the lookout for areas of the shoe that are starting to wear out.

If you notice that the sides of the shoe are looking older or more strained than the rest of the shoe, then the width may be off. In the same manner, toes that stick up or seem to be shaping uncomfortably is another sign that it is time for a new pair of child shoes.

How To Buy

It is best to go shopping for shoes in the evening, since feet tend to swell up slightly during the day. Buying shoes in the morning or early afternoon can result in getting too small of a size. Since child shoes can be pricey at times and your child will rapidly outgrow them, it is best to do all that you can to get that perfect fit while allowing for a little growing room.

Resist the temptation to give in to all of those adorable shoes available in the stores. Child shoe manufacturers have cleverly designed everything from glittery sandals to miniature Nikes, capitalizing on the "cute factor." While shopping, your child will surely spot one of their favorite characters on a pair of sneakers, and you may find the most darling pair of patent leathers imaginable.

However, do your best to hold off. Unless it is for a special occasion, it is much more cost-effective and practical to get shoes that your child will actually wear more than a day after leaving the store. Trendy shoes can be uncomfortable, of poor quality, and impractical for playing outside. Keep in mind your child's daily activity level, and base your shoe purchase off of that.

Be sure to have your child's feet measured every time that you go and buy shoes. Even if they seem comfortable in the store, there is always the possibility that they will feel different after a day of activity. Take the time to be measured by a shoe store employee who can help you to make an informed decision.

Try and pick out shoes that will be easy not only for you, but for your child as well. Velcro should take priority over laces if you have a particularly young child, and they should have a fastening mechanism that your child can handle on his own.

Avoid slip on shoes if possible, and opt for breathable fabrics such as canvas. Lastly, allow your child to have some input as to what shoes you will by. This is the only way to guarantee truly happy feet!
