Also known as Designer Shoe Warehouse, this no-frills shoe emporium sells name brand shoes at prices that are much lower than department and specialty stores.

DSW began in Dublin, Ohio in 1991 and now has over 200 stores nationwide. While the stores are not as luxurious as a typical department store, they offer shoppers an easy way to see the more than 2,000 styles of shoes that are on the floor at any given time.

DSW Shoes is set up like a large warehouse, with stacks of shoes that are neatly organized to form aisles within the store. Shoppers are encouraged to try on items as they please.

While the staff of DSW is extremely helpful, they are not like typical department store employees. You will not see salespeople bringing merchandise from the back while you sit in a luxurious chair. Each one of the 30,000 pairs of shoes in stock is on the selling floor. You are in charge of finding your size and desired style.

DSW Shoes offers its customers a rewards program that makes shoppers eager to come back for more.

Membership to the comprehensive program is free. Members get two double point shopping days per year, a free e-zine, special offers, and birthday gifts. Members also earn a certain number of points per dollar spent and receive rewards certificates based on point totals.

Frequent shoppers who earn more than 6,000 points between September 5, 2006 and December 31, 2006 will also be inducted to the DSW Shoes Premiere Rewards Program. Members of this upgraded rewards program earn even more points per dollar spent and receive even more rewards saving certificates.

DSW Shoes does not promote any of the brands that they carry. In fact, the store advises customers to call their nearest store to inquire about what brands are being carried at any given time.

Brands that have been spotted at the store in the past include heavy hitters that would make Imalda Marcos drool with delight. Gucci, Prada, Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman, Beverly Feldman, Givenchy, and Helmut Lang are just some of the designer brands that were seen at the Manhattan DSW Shoes outpost. Sneakers made by Reebok, New Balance, Skechers, and Polo by Ralph Lauren are also carried. Other notable brands include Steve Madden, Easy Spirit, and Aeresoles.

If you are looking for dress shoes, look no further than DSW. They carry brands such as Kenneth Cole and Cole-Haan.

Men can also get in on the action with Johnston and Murphy, Allen Edmonds, and many others.

DSW Shoes also carries a large selection of accessories such as socks and designer handbags.

Designer shoes at DSW are typically priced between $100 and $200. A large selection of sneakers are carried at the store, with many priced below $40. The company claims that most styles are priced 50% below department store prices, and with new shipments arriving weekly it’s a good idea to make DSW a frequent destination if you are shoe obsessed.
