G Unit Footwear and 50 Cent

In 2003, the debut album by G Unit, led by 50 Cent, was so hugely popular that Reebok decided to release a line of sneakers called G Unit. 50 Cent endorsed the shoes and assisted with promotion by wearing G Unit footwear almost constantly. The sneakers, designed for fashion, sport and general urban appeal, became both the biggest sellers in Reebok’s storied history and the most popular hip-hop shoes ever to hit the market. In fact, the original line of shoes sold out in a matter of days.

Their popularity wasn’t hurt, and may well have been helped, when conservative commentator Bill O’Reilly organized a boycott of Reebok on the grounds that working with the rapper sent a negative message to impressionable children. Nothing has stopped either 50 Cent or Reebok and the shoes are still going strong.

G Unit Shoe Styles

Current styles of G Units range from slick street shoes to shoes that combine sport and fashion. They all feature Reebok’s dedication to performance, support and comfort. Special to G Unit footwear, 50 cents of the proceeds from each shoe sold are donated to charities supported by 50 Cent. Most of the sneakers are basic lace-ups. The G-6 styles are especially hot, as they have a transparent outsole with court-style traction, letting you see into the quality construction of the sole.

For the men:

• G Unit G xt II is one sneaker that combines street and sport with DMX micro-heel technology. It’s an urban shoe with the ruggedness you need and expect from a performance shoe.

• The G6 is the anniversary celebration shoe of the G Unit collection. It has the look and shape of a classic sneaker and is made of full-grain leather, making it a great casual shoe.

• G Unit Camo is a street shoe in a camouflage design.

• LA Dodgers is a white leather and suede shoe with Dodger blue trim and the legend “LA” on the heel. It’s perforated for comfort and breathability and has a padded collar.

• The G Unit Classic in white with navy and red trim is a court-inspired shoe with a soft leather upper and a molded midsole for great cushioning. It also offers excellent traction and durability.

For the women:

• Lady G Unit. A fresh casual shoe, it has a leather and mesh upper, allowing for great comfort. The rubber outsole means you’ll have maximum traction. Color combos include white with red, royal blue or sheer gray. Wearers say it takes a little bit of effort to get the right size, but once you do, the shoes are great and the arch support excellent.

• Hiker. For hiking the streets, not the trails, because you want to keep these tan and brown soft leather shoes in good condition. They have a textile lining, rugged rubber outsole and perforated quarter panel. A great weekend or casual shoe, women especially rave about the comfortable width, allowing for a lot of easy walking.
