Pastry Footwear

From LoveToKnow Shoes

Most people wouldn’t want to walk in dessert, but Pastry footwear is changing a lot of minds. Developed by Vanessa and Angela Simmons, daughters of Rev. Run (formerly known as DJ Run, one of the founders of legendary hip-hop group Run DMC), Pastry athletic-inspired and casual shoes are quickly developing a strong fan base.

The Sweetness of Pastry Footwear

Starting with the Cake Collection, Pastry footwear is very distinctive. They are as colorful as the desserts that inspire the names. Sugar Sprinkles, for example, which come in pink, blue or gold, have pretty pastel stripes along the sides, and the toes, tops and heels are decorated in multi-colored sprinkles. The sides are leather, so the shoes won’t do for vegans, but they do have a padded comfort platform and a nonskid sole.

It should be noted that the sneakers, although launched under the branch of Run Athletics, are really more like athletically inspired casual shoes, rather than shoes you want to wear for running or any high-impact aerobic activity. But wearers report that these eye-catching shoes are very comfortable and great for all-day wear, so long as you’re mindful of getting the right size. They can run a little small, so you may need to go down half a size for your perfect fit. Adding to the sweetness, a tube of lip gloss comes with each pair of shoes, and its scent and color are coordinated to match the shoe’s theme. You can even get a matching handbag for some of the shoes.

S’More Fun

If you want to improve your luck, or at least step up your compliments, try a fortune cookie. The Fortune Cookie sneaker features Lurex embroidered fabric and Croco print leather. There are inset rhinestones on the vamp and heel, so you’ll sparkle wherever you go. Want a bit more shine? There is also a perforated metallic leather toe cap, heel overlay and collar lining. The Fortune Cookie is a sweet slip-on with padded tongue, collar and foot bed and soft fabric lining with a rubber traction outsole. The color combinations are black and gold, blue and gold and white and blue.

Then there’s the unbelievably cute Fab Cookie Boot. In shades of blues, pink, green and white, with a few more sprinkles, it’s a real treat. It has a leather upper, embroidery details, suede trim and heel paneling, a padded tongue, collar and removable foot bed. It even comes with an iced metallic gold cookie hang charm.

If you want something more in the way of a warm winter boot, there’s the Marshmallow. This is a versatile boot, as you can fold the collar up or down. There is also a detachable chain with a Pastry logo ID tag, which can also be worn as a bracelet. The upper is soft suede with a leather midsole trim, heel pop and collar trim. The boot is lined in faux fur with a padded foot bed and cushioned rubber outsole.

New Pastry Shoes

Pastry has recently started a line of sandals and flats. The sandals are called Electro Pie and they have a flip-flop look with a teeny bit of heel. They’ve also got shiny resin charms and pastel tones with gold edging.

The ballerina flat, in either Blueberry Glam Fruit or Sweet Potato, comes in a tweed fabric with a white faux leather patched fruit design and matching embroidery.

Buying Pastry Footwear

Pastry shoes are mostly available online, at such sites as Zappos, Amazon and Finish Line. They are increasingly available in brick-and-mortar shops, such as Shoe City and Sneaker Villa.

Making them extra worth the effort is the finishing touch – the shoes come in boxes that are wrapped in ribbon, so it really is like buying a pastry, only this is a dessert that will help you stay fit, cause you’ll want to walk all over town!
