Ravel Footwear
From LoveToKnow Shoes
Ravel Footwear, a shoe company based in the United Kingdom, sold some of the world’s best made and affordable shoes and boots while in business. Unfortunately, in the spring of 2007, Ravel shoes was absorbed by Clarks, another United Kingdom-based shoe manufacturer, and the Ravel brand is no longer bringing us the trendiest footwear on the market.
Ravel's Closing
Many of Ravel's fans were sad to hear that the footwear manufacturer was closing its doors in 2007. The Clarks company, which took control of Ravel footwear in 1974 (originally Chaussures Ravel), reported that it would convert many of Ravel’s stores to Clarks, but would close any that overlapped existing Clarks businesses. Ravel went out of business in style, offering big sales and clearances on their shoes and accessories, undoubtedly sending their footwear fans into a happy frenzy over the great prices.
Filling the Gap
Clarks is a well-known shoe company and their shoes are famous for their comfort and durability. However, the Clarks style is somewhat different from Ravel's. While there are high-heeled Clarks shoes to be had, Clarks tends to be more known for mules and flats. Ravel devotees were more used to strappy sandals, stiletto-heel boots and modern pumps. Nine West was always seen as a competitor because the Nine West brand is known for the same qualities Ravel footwear was known for: stylish affordability in the latest fashions. True fans, however, will find it difficult to embrace any other brand and will cherish the Ravel shoes they were lucky enough to buy before the shops closed their doors.
The Ravel Allure
What made Ravel footwear so special? Simply put, for a reasonable price, consumers were able to buy shoes that were fashion-forward and trendy. They were comparable to Nine West shoes in their overall style. Women were able to find shoes for every possible occasion from the company, including:
- Work
- Dates
- Casual weekend
- Formal events
- Dressy occasions
- Night clubbing
Types of Ravel Shoes
Ravel shoes came in a large variety of styles. They sold every type of footwear to keep women outfitted in stylish comfort, including:
Ravel on eBay
These are some of the shoe styles available on eBay. Because eBay is an auction site, be aware that these shoes may not be available tomorrow. Plus, you will have to bid on them. While prices are generally low, the price for popular items can rise dramatically.
- Red party shoes are perfect for dancing the night away. The heel on this particular Ravel shoe is a flashy combination of red and silver to add unique detail.
- A pair of high-heeled black ankle boots will fit with many of your fall and winter fashions. In a basic color like this, these boots are sure to accessorize many outfits beautifully.
- Gold stilettos are made to be noticed. If you can’t get enough of super high heels, Ravel made these shoes in virtually every color.
- For a fantasy pair of shoes, peacock feather-adorned gold heels fit the bill. Your options may be limited on where you can wear these truly original shoes, but you won’t soon be forgotten in them.
As with purchasing anything from an auction site, pay attention to whether your wanted items are new or used. If you see the designation "BNIB," this stands for "Brand New in Box," which is always a plus when shopping for shoes online. Look carefully at the photographs of used items so that you know exactly what you’re getting. Most eBayers are honest about the condition of what they’re selling, but read the description and approach with caution anyway. If you live somewhere other than the United Kingdom, it can be hugely disappointing to pay for shoes and possibly shipping, only to find you didn’t get exactly what you paid for.
Where to Find Ravel Footwear
Unless you live in the United Kingdom, where Ravel shoes were widely available, your best option for purchasing these shoes is on eBay. Because the majority of Ravel owners live in England or anywhere else near Great Britain, the prices are generally in British Pound Sterling. If you need to figure out what the cost would be in American dollars, there are online conversion tables which will tell you the U.S. dollar price in a matter of seconds.
Cherish Them
If you were fortunate enough to find Ravel footwear while the company was still in business, hold onto them because there won’t be any more made. If you don’t want them anymore, however, don’t just toss them. There are people all over the world who may want to buy them from you. True Ravel fans will probably keep theirs and wear them often to remember when the company sold some of the most beautiful footwear around..

That's a shame, Ulrika. Some specialty shoe boutiques do carry very small sizes (like Shoebuy and Zappos), but it's admittedly difficult to find very stylish offerings. Keep an eye on eBay if you're seeking Ravels in particular.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaPitty , Pitty !! I have very small feet , but at Ravel could find nice feminine , pumps , boots, ect , in small sizes (1-2) Where will i find that now?
-- Contributed by: UlrikaAshni, you're definitely not alone. So many people miss this company and its products! I'd suggest really shopping around for the perfect pair of boots, maybe even going a bit beyond your usual price range if it means the difference between something unsatisfactory and something that truly fits you.
