SAS Sandals
From LoveToKnow Shoes
Although SAS shoes are predominantly known as walking or orthopedic shoes, the SAS sandals are popular, especially amongst women, for being an unusually comfortable sandal that doesn’t necessarily look like it’s designed for problem feet.
The Advantages of SAS Sandals
What makes SAS sandals so well-liked is that they work just as well for business as leisure. They are not the cutest sandal you’ll ever own, but they are light, easy on the sole, supportive of tender areas of the foot and thoroughly padded. Even the undersides of the straps are padded, which is virtually unheard of. There is definitely no breaking-in time required for shoes this well made, because they are designed to be comfortable the moment you put them on and walk out of the store (stopping to pay, of course). The heel height is just enough to add interest, but not too high, keeping feet in a nice, natural and stable position.
Browsing SAS Sandal Styles
Unfortunately, you cannot browse the catalog on the SAS website. While their disinclination to make the shoes available for purchase online can be understood, because they have done very well making deals with distributors and generating interest via word of mouth, it would be nice if there was one central location at which one could at least view all the current styles and their color ranges.
A few of the sandals available include:
- Huggy. Similar to a classic Birkenstock, especially if you choose the caramel color option, the Huggy is an open-toed slingback with an adjustable buckle on the ankle strap and layered top straps. The heel is a natural wedge, making for simple walking comfort.
- Suntimer. An open-toed slingback with a higher chunky heel and a style that dresses up and down, making these the perfect shoes for a summer wedding or other stylish event that might require a lot of time on the feet. The strap across the mid-step is adjustable.
- Huarache Tripad. SAS’ patented Tripad soles bring extra support and comfort to shoes that are already designed to fit feet properly. These huaraches don’t look anything like what you’d expect a comfort shoe to look like. They are similar to Dansko sandals and have open toes and a three-strap design across the mid-step with a nice, subtle floral embellishment at the center. The ankle strap is adjustable and the slight wedge heel is low.
- Moc Croc Tripad. With a two-inch heel and patent-leather mock crocodile print, these SAS sandals are definitely for the woman who refuses to sacrifice fashion, even though she still requires comfort. The ankle strap is fully adjustable with a Velcro closure.
- Slides. Again, looking a lot like a classic Birkenstock, these low-heeled suede slides feature open toes and three fully adjustable buckle straps.
- Duo. Another stylish, low-heeled shoe with two adjustable straps across the open toe and some nice perforated detail. The Duo features the Tripad comfort sole and the ankle strap is also adjustable.
Buying SAS Sandals
Aside from eBay and a few resellers here and there, it’s pretty much impossible to buy SAS shoes online, or at any kind of discount. When it comes to buying sandals, however, you are better off buying them in a brick-and-mortar store anyway. Especially if you suffer from hammertoes or bunions or something similar, in which case you absolutely have to have the shoes fitted to your feet. You need to be sure they will cushion and support you where it’s needed, without adding any undue pressure. You also want to be sure they will look as good as possible. Just because they are designed for feet that need some extra care doesn’t mean you have to lose out on the looks!
