Silver Prom Shoes
From LoveToKnow Shoes
Silver prom shoes are perfect for the occasion for so many reasons. They're versatile, come in all sorts of styles, and if you choose wisely, you can get even more use out of them long after that special night has passed.
The Versatility of Silver Prom Shoes
You could almost pick silver prom shoes before choosing your prom dress. Almost. Silver complements a range of shades and saves you from the hassle of having to have your satin shoes dyed to match your dress exactly. The only dress colors that are definite "no's" when it comes to silver shoes are gold, some shades of brown, and copper. You won't want to mix your obvious warm tones with the cool-toned silver.
Are you a cool-toned gal who feels confident she won't choose a dress in a warm shade? In love with a pair of silver shoes you just happened to stumble across when you weren't really looking? You could purchase them before finding a dress, but then you run into potential heel height issues, especially if your dress is long. This is more of an issue if you're tall; if you're short, the dress can be hemmed.
What about the style? It may not ultimately match up with the style of the dress. If you think you can wear them with something aside from the prom dress you still have to choose, and if they won't break the bank, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead to snatch them up. Don't purchase them too far in advance, though, because you don't want to give them many opportunities to get scuffed up or ruined.
On the flip side of that, it is wise to wear your prom shoes for at least a few hours on a few different days—even just around the house—to make sure the bottoms aren't too slick for you to feel safe parading around on the dance floor or at the restaurant beforehand. You'll also be glad you broke them in a bit since you'll be dancing all night. Who needs blisters on one of the most memorable occasions of high school?
Because silver shoes are so versatile—even some of the ones fancy enough for your prom dress—you'll be able to wear them from time to time with other things to break them in before the big night.
Silver Shoe Styles
Silver shoes come in a variety of styles you can pair up with your prom dress. Consider a pair of sequined, satin flats if your long dress just barely grazes the floor when you walk and you're tall. Heels could make the dress appear to be an awkward length, but flats will not only keep your dress falling at an elegant level, they will also keep your feet feeling better than they would in heels for hours.
Wearing a short dress to prom? Strappy sandals with any heel height will look lovely and enhance the appearance of your legs whether your skin is dark or light. If your skin is very light, the silver could blend well enough to make your legs look exceptionally long. The heels can be chunky, wedge, stiletto, kitten, short, or tall. Wear what makes you comfortable. You'll be standing on them all night, so if stilettos cause you to fear for your life, skip those and try on some silver kitten heels.
Again, silver comes to the rescue here because if your dress is long and you choose flats, you're not wasting money on a dye job that no one will see. If you're wearing a short dress, you'll add a spark of interest to your attire; that's much more appealing to the eye in most cases than choosing shoes in the exact color as your dress.
Wear Them Again
Graduation, sorority/fraternity formals, weddings, baby showers…after prom, these things could all be in your future. If you buy silver shoes, it will be easy to pair them up with another dress in another color. If you purchase a relatively classic or borderline casual pair, you'll be able to wear them on normal days, too. A simple metallic flat could go with a pair of blue jeans and a nice black shirt, for example.
Choose silver prom shoes for their versatility with all types of prom dresses (choosing silver is usually a safe choice if you can't find another complementary shade for your cool-toned dress), their availability in so many styles, and the wearability you'll get from them long after prom is over. If you choose wisely, they may become your "go-to" shoes for special events.
