White Shoes

The Golden Rule of White Shoes: Optional
So what if you really want to wear your white shoes in the middle of October, or you can't wait to break them out, so you slip them on in February on a particularly warm day? Supposedly you're not supposed to wear white shoes after Labor Day--especially not dress shoes.
Rules are meant to be broken, and quite a few fashion rules are silly, anyway. Who says you can't use a straw purse in the colder months, or wear a brown top with black pants? Maybe you need a hint of summer in your life to keep you sane and remind you of a vacation to come, or happen to love that chocolate-colored shirt with your black gauchos.
Keeping Them Bright
There's not a less attractive pair of shoes than scuffed up white shoes. Athletic shoes are somewhat exempt, as they look a little more presentable dinged up and looking worn. Hooray for working out with passion, right?
Canvas: Canvas shoes are the easiest! Basically, wash and dry. For extra whitening, try Oxiclean.
Leather: Rinse them and scrub them on the outside with a soft brush, then use white shoe polish to fix the scuffmarks. For more tips on cleaning leather, check out this article on the DIY Network. Find tips from internet users just like you at ThriftyFun.com.
Shoes We Love--No Matter What Season It Is
These T-Strap bridal shoes from Vera Wang has glitter imbedded in the leather for a special touch.
The perfect example of why white shoes should be allowed in the winter, the dollhouse Beverlina has faux fur accents and a matching, muted gray wedge heel.
These casual Mary Janes, the Gravis Misha, gives an old dressy classic a casual, fun edge, thanks to a baby blue flat and more laidback design.
Here's a shoe that never goes out of style from Dr Scholls. These are fabulous for just slipping on with a casual summer outfit, or even a semi-flirty skirt you're wearing to work.
White sneakers are fun with a punch of color. These shoes from Adidas will make sprinting less of a chore, and more like genuine fun.
So What Can You Wear Them With Besides an Easter Dress?
Well, for starters, a wedding dress. But that's the obvious one. White shoes also look fabulous with--you guessed it--spring and summer colors in pastels and brights. Pair them with a breezy pale lilac skirt and white top, or white capris with a turquoise cami. Be careful about pairing them with dark bottoms or they'll look a bit too stark and out of place.
They Come In All Shapes and Sizes
White shoes come in all styles--from running shoes to designer dress shoes. Looking for a dyeable shoe so that you can match a formal (or not so formal) dress perfectly? Yep--they start out as white satin, usually. It's quite a versatile color in shoes, despite the notion that they're hard to pull off.
